PCGG, KARAPATAN LAUD CONVICTION OF EX-FIRST LADY REP. IMELDA MARCOS
The Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) lauded the development on the case of former first lady turned representative of Ilocos Norte, Imelda Marcos.
The quasi-judicial agency tasked to recover the ill-gotten wealth of alleged corrupt public officials congratulated the Special Prosecutors of the Office of the Ombudsman for the successful prosecution of the case.
Human rights group Karapatan meanwhile demanded the immediate arrest and imprisonment of the former first lady after she was found guilty for graft by the Sandiganbayan.
The former first lady was convicted for seven counts of graft for using her cabinet position during the reign of her husband to maintain Swiss bank accounts.
PCGG estimates showed that billions of dollars allegedly accumulated by the Marcoses were deposited and hidden abroad.
